Technologies of  Freedom

This site is devoted to harnessing the power of modern technology for
the purpose of individual freedom; we call it "Technologies of Freedom." Modern
governments increasingly us the power of technology to increasing their own power
at the expense of the individual, resulting in a rise of global tyranny that will make one
positively nostalgic for the tyrannies of old. In the past, a person could run, they could
move, or they could effectively resist government encroachment. These days
technology makes it increasingly hard, not to only to fight government tryanny, but to
even know that your freedoms are under assault...until you try to exercise them.

Old tyrannies are outdated

The tyrannies of old still have their representatives in states like North Korea or
Cuba, but those states are dinosaurs. They are being ushered off the stage of history
as the personalities at the center of their cults die off. This is not being replaced with
freedom however. Rather, around the world, is the emergence of a far more sinister
tyranny: The 24/7 surveillance state. This modern tyranny works to control thoughts
and deeds of its citizens and does it far more effectivly than any tryanny of the past.
The modern tyranny uses the power of technology to scrutinize, propagandize and control
every aspect of individual life, often for ends that are inimical to the individuals involved.
These modern technologies make modern state tyranny far more comprehensive and
effective than any tyrant of the past could imagine and the disturbing thing about it is
that it is emerging even in countries that were formerly free such as Europe and the US.

What sort of tyranny?

What are they technologies that government is using against the people?
They include: Data Mining, IP and email surveilance (by governments and corporations),
RFID chips, ubiquitous closed circuit video, DNA screening, and much, much more.
Our purpose here is to help promote and develop technologies, and approaches to
technology, that will enable people to regain the freedom they have lost.
Freedom is like a muscle, it works only as well as you exercise it.
